Crown opening tools, set

human history
  • Description

Set of 3 spring type crown opening tools

steel tools nested inside each other. Textured surface at pincers. Marked on arm "D.R.G.M. / EXCELSIOR / No. 25003".

These crown opening tools are a cheaper quality but still work efficiently, using the outwards spring of the tool to apply pressure to the cutting serrations.

For enlarging the inside of a pocket watch crown to make it fit snugly around the pendant tube, to reduce sideways movement and to limit the entry of dust. The screwed knob expanded the tool slightly, while the file serrations removed the metal.
