    Japanese naginata zukuri (halberd or polearm) and scabbard, circa 17th century; early Edo period;

    scabbard/saya: black polished lacquer on wood with ridge along sides in poor condition; damage with large part of closed end broken off along joint and missing;

    shaft: oval, wood; short buldging black and gold binding near blade end; gold crests on side of shaft

    guard/tsuba: small oval; silvered copper with japanese number two stamped on face

    blade: abrasive damage masks forging detail, light fingerprint shaped rust mark; one long narrow groove and one shorter wide groove on side; traces of red paint in wider; silvered copper collar at guard; tsang signed with 2 japanese characters
