Fue fue

human history
  • Other Name

    Fly whisk (English)

  • Description

Fue fue. Fly whisk. This is a hand held fue fue. A shaft has been carved from kieto (ebony wood). It is dark brown, almost black in colour and cylindrical in form. It portrays a smooth and slightly polished surface. A woven brush made made from pulu (coconut sennit fibres) has been attached to one end of the shaft. It begins as a coiled braid around the top end of the shaft.

It then extends into short singular plaited braids which have then been cast off to leave the fibres of pule free and loose. The pulu is of a dark golden brown colour and darken at their tips of the brush component.
