    Model of house of a Rumah Bolon

    Made from wood, hair, metal, and paint. A Rumah Bolon is the traditional house of the Toba Batak people of Sumatra. The house is an "A" frame with a peak at the front and back of the roof and a deep U shape connecting between. The thatching of the roof is made from hair that is dense and brown. The house is on 14 legs and has a small ladder at the front leading up inside the house. The front of the house is decorated with carvings of wave patterns and flourishes in a dark red and black paint. At the top front of the house is a wooden panel also carved and painted that resembles an abstract face. The house is nailed together.
