  • Description

    i Wau Gata. War Club. Carved from kau (wood). The shaft is long, curved and round in section with the head of the club carved into two protrusions, a spur carved at a right-angle from it and a central ridge across the diameter of the top surface of the main protrusion. The underside of the head is carved into grid-like light relief. The grip end is carved in light relief tavatava (zigzag) design. The i Wau Gata is dark in colour with a glossy patina.

    Small drilled holes at each end where suspension hook were put to suspend the club for display.
