WW1 fundraising badge: Australia Day 1918

The Australian Red Cross 'Australia Day' was inaugurated in July 1915 to help raise large sums of money for its war effort. The day was celebrated annually during the war by people all over the country who would get together to hear musicians, eat from street food stalls, & buy badges from girls dressed in costume.Badges differed from each other as different Red Cross branches designed and sold their own.

Australia Day 1918 raised 430,400 pounds in NSW alone.

Note: The Australian Red Cross Australia Day is distinct from the national Australia Day celebrated on 26 January each year.
