    Basikete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Woven from voivoi (pandanus) and magimagi (coconut sennit), lined with black cotton cloth, four sided, rectangular in shape, with two handles and a clasp. The base is made with strips of natural coloured voivoi woven out in check, and is made long enough so as to form the sides of the basikete.

    The front and back sides consists of somo (dyed-black voivoi), paomo (dyed-brown voivoi), and natural coloured strips of pandanus woven out in check and forming an abstract pattern across the front and back sides of the basikete. All sides and base are interwoven, using strips of somo, with the rims made of magimagi outlining the front and back sides of the basikete. There is a clasp, double-layered, made with strips of voivoi, woven out in similar fashion to the sides of the basikete. A black wooden bead is sewn onto the end of the outer layer of the latch using strips of somo. A loop, made of a soft black plastic raffia, is interwoven into upper area of basikete, to fasten the clasp. Two handles, made of two tones of brown magimagi, are interwoven into the top rim, spanning the opening of the basikete. Each handle consisting of six braids, tali tolu (3-ply braids), braided to form a wide plait. Museum purchase, Pasifika Festival 2004.
