    Basikete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Woven from voivoi (pandanus) and magimagi (coconut sennit), rectangular in shape, double-layered, with two handles and a clasp. The inner layer consists of strips of natural coloured voivoi, woven out in check, forming the sides and base. There is a rim made of magimagi that is interwoven, using strips of somo (dyed-black voivoi), along the edges of the base and opening of the basikete.

    The outer layer consists of strips of natural coloured, paomo (dyed-brown voivoi), and somo (dyed-black voivoi) woven out in check, forming diagonal patterns across both sides of the basikete. There is a flap (double-layered and woven out in similar fashion to the sides of the basikete) with a black wooden bead sewn onto the end using black plastic raffia. A latch made soft black plastic raffia is interwoven into upper area of basikete. Two handles, made of two tones of brown magimagi, are interwoven into top rim, spanning the opening of the basikete. Each handle consisting of six braids, tali tolu (3-ply braids), braided together to form a wide plait. Museum purchase, Pasifika Festival 2004.
