  • Description

Kete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Kete is woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) strips with dyed apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decoration). Dyed-brown/red, dyed-dark brown, and dyed-black apuraka are overlaid diagonally to form primary surface pattern known as matautua (natural-coloured triangles). Kete has a patara (serrated) rim.

Along the upper of the kete is a pattern known as punarua (row of natural-coloured squares, each standing on one corner) and sits in-between two rows of check. A single tatai (handle) spans the kete's opening, and is attached to the upper-middle of the kete.
