  • Description

    Kete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Kete is woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) strips with dyed apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decoration). Rectangular in shape. The kete has a patara (serrated rim). Overlaid dyed-black strips of apuraka form geometric patterns consisting of vertical rows of 3 hetu matariki (little-eyed stars) motifs alternating with 3 punarua motifs (natural-coloured squares standing on one corner).

    These patterns sit in-between two horizontal lines of check and ara veri (bordered rows of twilled twos). Single plaited tatai (handle) spans kete's opening.
