Titi are worn by men and women during cultural performances. This is a titi saka, which has both the plain tuaakie (underside of the pandanus leaf) backing as well as a layer of paka (decorated pandanus strips) all in one. Titi are made from tuaakie strips which are tied and looped onto a main waistband, the strips are added and tightly packed onto the waistband until the skirt is thick and full. A layer of paka and fulukaleva (thin zig zag woven strip) are on top of the tuaakie layer. These have been looped and added in between sections of tuaakie. The paka strips are thick and made from lau fala (pandanus leaves) and the designs are made from lau kie (peeled and coloured pandanus leaves).
