human history
  • Common Name
    Armament T&E, Bludgeon
  • Other Name

    Sword (English)

  • Description

Te reeree. Sword. This is a length of ngea (iron wood; Pemphis scidula) wood. It has retained its natural direction of growth and portrays filed and hafted marks across its exterior. The length of ngea wood shows a cylindrical base which has been tapered to form a point at one end. Continuous horizontal markings running towards the pointed end show the remains of a lashing that would have secured the noko (coconut midribs) and wii ni bakoa (sharks teeth).

The length of the ngea shows some vertical cracking in the wood and a deep brownish red tone that is characteristic of the ngea wood. This reeree is incomplete.
