Sword. This is a hand held weapon made into a modern style. A length of dark brown wood has been cut and carved to form the handle and blade as one component. The handle section has been filed to portray curved edges and shows an oval cross-section at its base. A geometric shape has been filed out at where the blade and handle intersect. A tunnel has been made through its depth where a short cylindrical length of light coloured wood has been inserted to portray a guard. Three small perforations have been made on either side of the guard for the purpose of inserting the kora (cordage of coconut sennit fibres). Following this, three small wii ni bakoa (sharks teeth) feature central perforations where the kora has been inserted and lashed to the guard. The blade section of the reeree is flat in depth and tapers towards a point. Small perforations have been made along the edges towards the top. A furrow has been carved into the depth of the edges. Wii ni bakoa has been inlayed individually. Each wii ni bakoa shows central perforations where the kora has been inserted and lashed adjacent to the perforations along the edges of the blade.WāhiGilbert Islands/KiribatiRā TāpiringaUnknownTohu Tuakiri Kē2004x4.486 (temporary accession number)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Te reeree, 2004x4.486, Photographed by Jennifer Carol,… … Read more Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 2004x4.486Takenga ā-AhureaKiribatiKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiGilbert Islands/KiribatiRāUnknownTikanga Waihangacarved drilled woven lashed inlay [handmade] [handwoven]Waitohu/māka2004x4.486 (label, stick on/label)Pāohowood/plant materialsennit/cord (fiber product)coconut (fibre)/plant fibre/natural fibre/fibreshark/fish/tooth/boneRaraunga Ine475mm110mm15mmHuinga KaupapaWarfare/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūArmament T&E, WeaponTools & Equipment for Science & TechnologyWhakahounga o Mua05 Dec 2018 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
