    Neck ornament (English)

  • Description

Kahoa fou. This kahoa (neck ornament) is made of brightly dyed fou (lacebark) woven in a curled technique called fakavilovilo. The kahoa has additional decorative felefele fakavilovilo (curled fringing) incorporated into the bold and bright design. The fou is dyed in the following commercial colours: yellow, green, pink, purple, red, in addition to incorporating natural fibres. All these woven fou pieces are tied with pink cotton thread together in a ring.

Rosettes of the dyed fou fibre are also incorporated into the design, perhaps Tongan in creative inspiration.
