This is a plaited belt. It is made up of two components. The first is the belt itself, which is flat and rectangular in shape, and has been woven from strips of kāniu (the young white leaf of the coconut frond) which have been processed and bleached, producing a permanent white colour. One end of the belt is pointed whilst the other is straight and slightly fringed. The second component is the numerous and colourful geometric-patterned motifs which adorn the kāniu belt. These fakamanaia (decorations) are made from strips of coconut leaf which have been dyed red, green, blue, purple, yellow and orange. They have been intricately woven into the kāniu to create multi-coloured block and zig-zag patterns that stand out against the white-coloured backgroundWāhiNiueAccession Number2004.120.15Rā Tāpiringa18 Nov 2004Tohu Tuakiri Kē56272 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Belt, 2004.120.15, 56272, Cultural Permissions Apply Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 2004.120.15, 56272Takenga ā-AhureaNiueanKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiNiueRāPre 2004Tikanga Waihangaplaited woven handwovenWaitohu/māka56272; Niue; 2004.120.15 (handwritten)Pāohococonut (fibre)/plant fibre/natural fibre/fibrecoconut leaf/leaf (plant material)/plant materialdye/colorantRaraunga Ine715mm40mm18mmHuinga KaupapaFibrework/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūOrnament, WaistBody AdornmentOrnamentPersonal ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua20 Oct 2023 Tūemi e whai hononga Ngā hua o DigitalNZ Price formation in parimutuel markets : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Management in Economics at Massey University, Albany, New Zealand Massey University The bet : (poems in memory of Jim Morrison, American poet) / Mark Pirie ; drawing of Jim Morrison by Michael O'Leary.
