  • Description

    Kete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Large kete woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) strips with dyed-red/orange apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decoration). The kete is finished with a patara (serrated) decorative rim. Dyed-red/orange apuraka overlaid strips form diagonal and triangular shapes along upper area of kete.

    Across the middle of the kete dyed-red/orange overlaid strips form a pattern consisting of paired natural-coloured triangles with bases facing towards each other and a pattern known as katikativai (double veritcal lines of check that touch). Punarua (row of natural-coloured squares each standing on one corner) sit below. Along the lower area of the kete are overlaid dyed-red/orange apuraka strips that form triangular, check, patterns. Single iri (braided) tatai (handle) of interwoven natural coloured rauara and dyed-red/orange apuraka.
