Adzes were invaluable tools for Moana Pacific societies prior to the introduction of European tools and materials. They were made in a variety of sizes and shapes according to their required use. This toki (adze) is presented in its complete form, worked from maka (stone) that is grey-brown in colour. The toki is rectangular in overall shape and trapezoidal in cross section. The toki has a sharp cutting edge and sloped bevel. The sides and back of the blade are flaked.
