implement

human history
  • Description

Sickle-shaped implement. This implement was located in Rotuma, however its use and cultural origins are as yet unrecorded. It is carved from hardwood into a flat curved shape with a handle, in similar look to a sickle. There is a small perforation towards the handle end, likely for suspension, as well as a small inlay of bone or shell shaped like a donut and placed into the wood. It has a highly polished surface treatment and is reddish brown in colour.
