    bolt action carbine in 2 pieces: stock broken; 7.92mm calibre; recess and slot in butt for sling; captive magazine with cover plate; Mannlicher type magazine and loader; two countersunk screws in broken edge

    markings:

    serial number on left hand side of breech and body, forward of trigger guard; and on edge of bolt handle: 6301

    left hand side of body: Kar. 88 / n.m

    at top of breech: . / S / [crown] / ENFURT. / 1893.

    right hand side forward of body: three manufacturer's marks with crown on top

    twice under rear sight, on safety catch, top of striker body, and on forward barrel band: 01

    on right side of foresight: 11.H.4.9.

    on magazine cover plate: GBN / 1915

    on top of bolt face: 26

    underside of cocking lever: three manufacturer's marks
