Austrian Schwarzlose 8mm 1907/1912 model heavy machine gun, World War I.
Made by Schwarzlose, Waffen Fabrik Steyr, 1918. The Schwarzlose, developed in 1900 was a heavy water-cooled weapon which operated by the backward thrust of the cartridge. This gun was adopted by the Austro-Hungarian Army and remained in service until the end of World War II although the Schwarzlose factory itself was dismantled in 1919 by the Allied Disarmament Commission.
