Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modelling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris. In the early fifties, he began designing furniture for Thonet and in 1958, became the main designer for Artifort. His abstract form, sometimes called the Mushroom chair introduced colourful and revolutionary sculptures for upholstered, extremely comfortable, seating.
