    Surveyor's chain belonging to government surveyor, Richard Todd, who was killed on Mt Pirongia as he surveyed confiscated land in the King Country on 20 November 1870 by Māori who were enforcing the aukati line, which delineated Māori from Pākeha land following the Waikato War. Steel chain, each link 170mm long, links are interspersed with brass markers with a simple loop for a handle at one end.
