  • Description

Stoneware, black and pigmented slips, inlaid brown and white clays.

Hayashi was a founder of Shikokai – a Kyoto based group of young artists dedicated to finding new modes of expression in post-War Japan. He began exhibiting his non-vessel forms in 1948. Today he is considered one of Japan’s leading ceramic artists.

The three architectural forms delude the eye with deceptive space and depth produced by his black on black surfaces and enhanced by the linear inlay that leads the eye in yet further directions.
