Plum Flower Pattern Bowl (maker's title)

  • Description

Porcelain, multiple glazes. The fourteenth generation of an important family of potters, the Imaimon Imaizumi is an inherited name and the family holds the title of ‘Intangible Cultural Property’. The family are from the Arita area on the island of Kyushu where Japanese porcelains were first produced during the early part of the seventeenth century. The Imaizumi family made Nabeshima ware which was for domestic consumption.

The family have, for several generations, been increasingly involved in preserving historical Nabeshima styles and techniques. This magnificent bowl is an example of the fourteenth generation’s departure from traditional style achieved with highly developed skill and flair.
