Lieut. Ronald William Arthur Frost (1918-1997) served during WW2 with the 51st Highland Division. He was captured on 20 June 1940 north of Dunkirk and was a POW for nearly 5 years in Silesia - mainly at Stalag VIIIB. (A a number of New Zealanders taken prisoner in Crete were also at Stalag VIIIB.)

He escaped just before the end of the war (his twelfth attempt), and saw VE Day in London. The crystal set helped in his escape - letting him know what was happening and when it was safe to move.

After the war Ron Frost migrated to New Zealand, and became a leading figure in motor racing in this country and received an MBE for his services in this field.
