  • Description
iMum (more megabytes that you've had hot dinners)
In iMum, Lysaght utilised "low rent" materials of plastic covered cane, most commonly associated with say Blind Foundation weaving workshops. Through weaving in the style of these workshops Lysaght has recreated a now everyday high technology object. Her challenge is to transform these "lowly", found materials into a different and dynamic state. iMum is as much is about the artist's practice of being a "hunter and gatherer" as it is about having fun.

The artist says about the work, "I am a product of the handicrafts era, as was my mother. She never wasted anything. As a child I wore sweaters knitted out of scarps of wool. Two rows of this and four rows of that! These garments were always source of embarrassment to me! In hindsight, I realise those hand knits were made out of love and economic necessity. This Here and Now computer pays tribute to that era."
