    Model of the Thorne Roadster

Cousins & Cousins, Coach and Carriage builders of Auckland began advertising the Thorne Roadster in 1894. That year the roadster was displayed at several shows, and a description of it was published in the Waikato Times (31 October 1894, page 6)

"The Thorne" roadster, a novelty in two-wheelers, specially designed and built only by Messrs. Cousins and Cousins, attracted much attention, and Mr. W. J. Cousins, who was present, was kept busy explaining the manner of converting it from a two-seated into a four-seated trap. When arranged for four passengers the "Thorne" roadster has the appearance of a light and stylish dog-cart; when required for two passengers only the front seat is made to slide over the back one, converting the vehicle into a single-seat roadster. As this style of trap is light enough for a pony, and is sold at a very low figure, it has become very popular, and its enterprising builders are kept busy keeping pace with orders for it. "

The company won first prize for throe exhibit at the Auckland Exhibition 1898-1899, and on this occasion, the model was part of the display.

"The Thorne roadster was "again to the fore, and the small model of this trap, with toy horse and harness, is a source of delight to the young people." (Auckland Star, 17 November 1899, page 2).
