Pulou. Hat. This is a wide-brim pulou worn on special occasions and celebrations. This is made up of two components: ribbon and kā niu (coconut leaflet midrib). The kā niu is used as the base and is coiled by orange and purple ribbons. As these are put together to form the body of the pulou, starting at the centrepoint of the crown, the coloured ribbons are alternated to form patterns and motifs for embellishments.

Patterns are visible and border the edge and circumference of the brim, repetitive cubic motifs on and around side of crown and a single, large sunflower-like motif adorns the top of the crown. On one side of the pulou are three large golden florals for fakamanaia (decorations). The petals are made of wide strips of ribbons with added small purple ribbons.
