    Flag purportedly taken from a dugout, Tobruk, WW2; rectangle shape; vertical green panel at the left corner with 3 horizontal stripes next to it in red, white and blue; damage to the right hand corners

    The flag is the “four-colour” Vierkleur, the state flag of the former Zuid Afrikaanse Republik or South African Republic (Boer Republic in the region of the Transvaal), which existed from 1852 to 1877, and again from 1881 to 1902. Transvaalers fought under this flag during the Anglo-Boer War.

    The flag is marked "Q Curnahan RNVR."
