    British White Ensign from Motor Launch Pahoe (ML555), Dover Patrol, WW1

    The Dover Patrol was a Royal Navy command during WW1, which played a significant role in blocking German shipping and which and took part in raid on Zeebrugge carried out in 1918.

    Saddler Andrew Gilmore Carnahan of 72 Victoria Rd, Devonport, Auckland, enlisted on 21 August 1918 with the Field Artillery, embarking with the Main Body, 1NZEF, on 16 October. He served on Gallipoli and later on the Western Front, receiving a promotion to the rank Sergeant in 1916.

    In January 1918 Carnahan was commissioned into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR).
