  • Description

    Te mwae. Neck ornament. This is made from te kora (coconut sennit fibre cordage), te nana (coconut shell), te moromoro (beads) and small pale yellow sea shells. A two-ply band of te kora has been utilised as the neck band. A pattern as been made with a series of small, dark brown discs of te nana have been threaded onto the kora alternating between a series of small pale yellow sea shells.

    Small circular perforations have been drilled into the centre of the te nana discs and parts of the small pale yellow sea shells. The ends of the mwae (Neck ornament) have been left unfastened and finished with a knot and different coloured glass te moromoro. One end features te moromoro in light blue and one that is transparent and green in colour. The other end features an opaque dark blue te moromoro and a smaller one in light blue.
