  • Description

    'Ato. Basket. This is a handwoven 'ato. It has been woven to portray a rectangular form with an 'au (handle) that has been attached to the short sides. Lau paogo (stiff pandanus leaf) has been used to lalaga (weave) the interior and strengthened its form. The same has been used to form the rectangular rim of the 'ato and the internal spine of the 'au. The exterior for the 'ato and the 'au has been woven using lau fala (pandanus leaf).

    Dyed and neutral coloured lau fala have been woven to portray chevron and chequered patterns on the exterior.
