    single barrel smoothbore percussion musket; Competition musket presented for competition to the auckland volunteer Rifle Corps by Sir John Logan Campbell in 1859.

    single barrel smoothbore percussion musket (light musket); 20 bore (.60 inch calibre); with metal ramrod; ramrod is threaded for jag adjustable rear leaf sight, graduated to 1000 yards; hooked breech; patchbox in butt, empty; engraved lock, hammer, trigger guard and patchbox; iron furniture; silver presentation plate on right butt: “Presented for Competition / to the / AUCKLAND VOLUNTEERS RIFLE CORPS / BY / J. Logan Campbell / 1859.; oval silver name plate on left butt, blank; silver shield escutcheon on wrist of butt; two ring studs on butt and metal ramrod tunnel for hook-type sling swivels (not present)

    accessories: gun case: wooden case with hinged lid; circular brass escutcheon on lid; brass corners and catches; lined with green baize; wooden compartment fittings, one with lid, others loose and/or missing; printed paper label: “HOLLIS & SHEATH / Manufacturers of Guns, Pistols & Rifles / [Royal coat of arms] / Makers to Her Majesty’s Honble Board of Ordnance / LONDON
