Sam Browne belt
Possibly worn by Lieutenant AF Maxwell, R.I.F. [Royal Irish Fusiliers?]
Sam Browne belts are combination pistol or sword belts with a shoulder strap and D-rings and were intended to take some of the weight of the sword. They were named after General Sir Sam Browne (1849-1898) of the British Army in India. The were first used in India, where Browne was stationed, circa 1860.
