    Riding breeches, Captain JB Neeley, WW1

    James Neely was 2nd in command of the Advance Force to Samoa, the first body of troops to leave NZ for active service during World War One.

    Captain James Blackwood Neely of Auckland was a member of the Samoa Advance Party (3rd (Auckland) Regiment), service number 1/727. He subsequently re-enlisted, (service number 11570) and embarked with the 12th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company on 1st May 1916, to serve on the Western Front.
