    H Selwyn Kenrick served during WW1 and WW2., and later (post WW2) became the first Colonel-Commandant, N.Z. Medical Corps.

    Kenrick trained at Otago (enrolled 1919) and in the UK, returning to New Zealand to take up a general practise in 1928. In 1835 he gave up that practise to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology becoming Superintendent of St Helens Maternity Hospital.

    With the outbreak of war in 1939 he again enlisted as Assistant Director of Medical Services for the first half of the War and subsequently as Director when he was responsible for the transfer of Medical Services from Egypt and Syria to Italy. He was to receive the C.B.E. and the Greek Military Cross for his services on Greece and Crete. On his return to New Zealand Dr Kenrick became Superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, a post held from 1946 to 1961. He also became Honorary Surgeon to the Governor General, Lord Freyberg and later became the first Colonel-Commandant, N.Z. Medical Corps.
