Graeme Andrew McGregor (b. 5.3.1930) was the first New Zealander killed in a Vampire accident in New Zealand. The aircraft, NZ5737, disappeared while on a night flying exercise near Foxton on 20 May 1952. Small pieces of wreckage were washed up on beaches near Foxton in the following few weeks. The pilot, Pilot Officer Graeme McGregor became the first airman to lose his life in an RNZAF jet aircraft. the main wreckage and pilot's body never discovered. The Vampires came out from England as obsolete. These pilots who had just finished their training on Harvards were put into Vampires to fly them as best they could. It was believed that the first two accidents were caused by the oxygen supply being wrong. Jones Pritchard was the other fatality.

Graeme's father Major Rob Roy McGregor was the model for the statue in Otahuhu.
