    Mr JL Thompson was in 1st Field Coy NZ Engineers between 1936-1939. Between 1914-1939 Territorials used 1914-1918 equipment. They wore puttees and riding breeches. Note in the Mounted Rifles puttees were put on from the top downwards finishing at the ankle, whereas Engineers put puttees on from the bottom upwards with tapes around calf and tied on outside of leg. They wore army boots over this. The wide web belt was a "service" belt [Patt.

    1908?], the narrow one was for "walking out". A bayonet was carried in the web frog on the left side with water bottle on the right side; haversack on left held mess gear.
