    Japanese leather belt WW2

    Captain Masatoshi Yamaguchi, Japanese Army

After completing a university education Masatoshi Yamaguchi attended a Military Academy in Tokyo, graduating in 1940 [?] and becoming an officer in the Japanese Army. During the war he served with 86 Artillery and was stationed mainly in China (North China), but towards the end of the war was transferred to Burma. He was here for a year and when Japan surrendered spent 11 months in a British Prisoner of War Camp before being repatriated to Japan.

Mr Yamaguchi had a great fondness of New Zealand but never had the opportunity to visit this country. Following his death in 1993 his family decided to gift his uniform and WW2 documents to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
