    Stone pounder (English)

  • Kupu whakaahua

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved from a single piece of keho/morevai (stalactite). Head of the pounder is formed into a transverse palm grip. Body of the pounder is conical in shape (narrow at the neck and gradually expanding till widest at base). Slight convex pounding surface. Light sandy colour. Attributed to Mangaia, Cook Islands.
