The longer loops of fiber are a natural off-white colour. The second layer is made up of singular pinnules of fiber in a longer length. These have been sectioned out by colour. They appear to have been dyed with a synthetic dye and faded over time. There is a sequence to the colour sectioning: pink, natural fiber colour, green, pink, natural fiber colour, green, pink, natural fiber colour then green. The third layer, also longer in length repeats the same pattern sequence starting with a section of natural coloured fiber. Then the last layer, also the longest in length is mostly of the natural coloured pinnules with some in the pink and green colourway spread through the back of the layers. An intricate knotting method has been used to attach the pinnules to the off-white european style cordage. An off-white european style of cord features loosely at the top ends of the riri. One end is looped and the other end is in two pieces, knotted and then left loose.
