human history
  • Description

Headband. The main headband is comprised of raffia wound tightly in bands of alternate colours of red, blue, and orange, with yellow raffia woven through to create chequered patterning and the names ‘TOFA’ and ‘TUVALU’. ‘Tofa’ is goodbye in the Tuvaluan language. The top of the band is intricately decorated with misa shells (Melambus luteus and Melambus fasciatus) that are attached using white raffia, with one missing.
