lamp, oil

human history
  • Description

lamp, oil. The object is an oil lamp with a ovoid shaped oil chamber with no discernible discus. There is a concave area with a cross design in relief and a off centre filling hole. There is a chevron pattern on the outer side of the cross terminating in a small scroll at base of the broken nozzle. The wick hole is destroyed but appears to have been large. There is a lumpy handle with roughly incised marks possibly part of the cast.

The fabric is grey/brown clay and there is a faint patch of orange paint on the shoulder. There are silty deposits adhering in and around the cross.
