    single shot percussion cavalry carbine; .577 inch calibre [14mm calibre]; breech loading; butt-trap broken off and sealed with [putty]; shallow and broad rifled barrel; has "suicide breech": only relies on small clip to hold in place while firing; civilian piece: probably never a military rifle as there is no ramrod casing; small loop in front of trigger guard for nipple protector on chain
