    flintlock: box lock travelling pistol; brass barrel, [1770-1820]

    smoothbore with turn-off notches at end of barrel; .42 inch calibre; single barrel, 2-inch hinged spring bayonet under barrel; to fold away bayonet, press lever on right front, rotate to rear, move trigger guard to rear, and allow to come forward, which will retain bayonet in retracted position; hammer safety catch at top rear of body; one-piece slab walnut grip; frame engraved

    missing: screw from top boxlock plate, causing fittings to sit proud, possible cause for hammer spring dysfunctional

    on right hand side of body within engraved oval: LONDON

    on left hand side of body within engraved oval: G. GOODWIN & CO

    on latch plate top of bayonet fitting: DL

    under barrel: two proof and maker's marks

    manufacturer: G. Goodwin & Co., Birmingham [and London] 1770-1820.
