    Pair percussion travelling pistols (cased), circa 1845

    percussion pistols; .56 inch calibre; possible flintlock conversion due to large half-moon recess in lock, and how nipple is affixed to rear left of barrel; single octagonal smooth bore Damascus barrel; muzzle-loading; captive ramrod; chequered wooden pistol grips with silver butt caps; decorated with gold and silver inlays and some engraving; oval silver escutcheon on wrist;

    markings:

    London proof & view marks on barrel, presumed to be under woodwork

    silver hallmarks on right front of butt on .1, and on left rear of butt on .2

    case: rectangular wooden case; removable lid with brass hinged handle; blue velvet lining with repeating floral pattern; two lidded compartments in opposing corners, one containing lead bullets
