    New Zealand military issue, 1880

    short wooded carbine; Snider conversion action; .577 inch calibre; small piece of cotton gauze in chamber; butt trap in butt plate; armourer's repair to underside of butt; rear leaf sight

    missing: screw from trigger guard; nipple protector and safety chain and mount

    markings:

    on lock plate: [crown] / VR; B.S.A. & M. Co. / 1880

    New Zealand issue marks and serial number on breech, stamped on wrist of butt, and on butt strap: N 80 Z / III / 0554

    manufacturer's and proof marks on barrel and body

    Sold out service mark on barrel and body, opposing arrows

    underside of breech block: 956
