    athletic medal, metal, monogram (possibly initials of NZ Amateur Championships) on the front, with 'Dec 1909' and 'Auckland' stamped around it, and engraved on the back: 'NZ AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP' and '880 YDS / FLAT / C. Cowan', with stylised ferns and twisting tendrils joining the medal to the loop for a cord.
