  • Description

    Ei. Chest or breast ornament. Ei consists of white coloured wool woven around a solid base, possibly rakau (wood), forming a rigid neckline. The neckline is decorated with two rows of small round brown ua (seeds) that are followed by three rows of poreo (cowrie shells), that have had their rounded backs cut off. The brown ua and the poreo are bored and have been hand-sewn across and into the neckline using white cotton thread.

    The ei is further decorated with a plush fringe of white feathers, possibly chicken feathers. Fastens at reverse top with a white woollen thread loop and a round pupu (shell).
