Necklace of pandanus keys. This 'ula (necklace) is made from the fruit keys of the fala tree (pandanus tree). The keys naturally range in colour from yellow to red, however they are now painted a deep red. Eighty fala keys were used to create this 'ula and each are threaded with a clear nylon string. With no fastening mechanism the nylon string has simply knotted to held the 'ula together. This 'ula fala was painted a bright red after it was threaded together making the once clear nylon a red colour. Traditionally this type of 'ula was primarily worn by tulafale (orator) but are now worn by any persons of status.WāhiSamoa/PacificAccession Number2015.22.18Rā Tāpiringa07 Apr 2015Tohu Tuakiri Kē56758.18 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete neck ornament; ula fala; 2015.22.18 Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 2015.22.18, 56758.18Takenga ā-AhureaSamoanKaiwaihanga Matua Anae Faleseu (Maker)WāhiSamoa/PacificRā2014Tikanga Waihangastrung drilled ThreadedPāohopandanus key/fruit/plant materialpaint/coating (material)pandanus key/fruit/plant materialpaint/coating (material)Raraunga Ine600mm55mmTaumata whakarōpūNecklaceJewelleryBody AdornmentsAdornment03 Personal ArtifactsWhakahounga o Mua14 Sep 2023 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
